Abstract

|
During last decades, the structure, composition, formation and function of the skin barrier have been intensely investigated. The basic principles and dynamic interactions affecting skin barrier function were revealed that both lipid composition and protein components are all working together. Though endogenous or exogenous factors engaged in barrier homeostasis are not fully discovered, therapeutic challenge including barrier reinforcement strategy will be the next step in skin barrier research where various cutaneous disorders can be treated. In this brief review, recent interesting findings regarding the field of barrier research will be described for further attention.
